This building was built as a livery stable for the former Alexander Hotel that stood at the north-east corner of William Street East and King Street South. It later served as a garage and for other purposes. Subsequently the location of Marbles Restaurant from 1977 to 2020, when the restaurant closed due to the effects of lockdowns. The large entranceway was so built in order to accommodate carriages.
