Historic Waterloo

Address: 34 King Street South

Originally a three-story building. May be of significant age; appears to have been the location of the first head office of the Waterloo County Mutual Fire Insurance Company. The building had housed a menswear shop for several years prior to August 26, 1973, when it was mostly destroyed by a fire originating next door in 32 King Street South. The first floor was subsequently reconstructed. On July 13, 1979, when the building housed the Charcoal King restaurant, there was also a smaller fire that significantly damaged the basement, this one set by owner Tom Siountres.
