Historic Waterloo

Name: Nixon House
Address: 81 Norman Street
Year Built: 1859, relocated 1913
Heritage Status: Designated (Part IV)

This house, as well as its neighbour 83 Norman Street, were originally built on Caroline Street, probably in the 1860s or 1870s. In 1913, the Kuntz Brewery intended to build a warehouse at that location. To make way for this building, this house was moved westward to its current location by horse team. The house is a board and batten building and is of frame construction. Though a modest house, it does evince the builder's attention to detail. As an example, both the front entrance and the 6-over-6-paned windows feature eared trim. The architraves above these openings include dentils, which suggests a Classical motif. Once the residence of local politician Sean Strickland.
