This house, which occupies a commanding position atop a small hill, was built in 1882 for Theodore Bellinger, who was a merchant and town councillor. In 1900 it was acquired by David Bean, owner of the Waterloo Chronicle and mayor of Waterloo from 1901 to 1903. The house was designated under the Ontario Heritage Act in 1982; at the time it was owned by Doug Wright, former President of the University of Waterloo. It later served as a Bed & Breakfast, Hillcrest House. Note the brackets and the wood trim below the eaves, the bay window, and the double front door. The windows have rounded corners and the keystones are decorated with a motif featuring grapes.
