Historic Waterloo

Name: Rummelhardt School
Address: 600 Erb Street West
Year Built: 1867
Heritage Status: Designated (Part IV)

Rummelhardt School, School Section No. 10, was originally opened in 1843. The stone one-room schoolhouse currently at this site was built in 1867. Further additions (since demolished) were built in 1959 and 1963, providing three classrooms and a library. The school closed in 1987 when Mary Johnston Public School opened. The building then became the home of K-W Bilingual School, which built a new school building on the property and demolished the modern additions to the original school building. This building is the only building remaining from the village of Rummelhardt.
