Historic Waterloo

Name: W-K United Mennonite Church
Address: 15 George Street
Year Built: 1888, additions 1952, 1960, 1975, 1988

This building was originally St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, built in 1888. In 1926, at the time of Church Union between the Methodists and Presbyterians, the building was purchased by Russian Mennonites who had immigrated to Kitchener-Waterloo in 1917, and became W-K United Mennonite Church. This is the only organization in Kitchener-Waterloo that refers to themselves as W-K, for Waterloo-Kitchener, instead of K-W, for Kitchener-Waterloo. Additions were constructed in 1952, 1960, 1975, and 1988.
